"Allah" Server

Description

This server works as a router for 4-6 users (changes from time to time). The Compaq Deskpro 386/20e was just too weak for that so I needed a better solution. Samuel Henry gave me a P133, a mainboard and even a case. However, the case was not 1337 enough so it had to be modded. Unfortunately I lost the first pictures when I tried my new digital camera.

allah03.jpgIt's progressing well, hot glue is still a modder's best friend.
allah04.jpgThe case frame had to be cut, too.

allah13.jpgHere it is and serves
allah14.jpgAfter serving flawlessly for 2 months a modder came along and wanted to modify the rear exhaust fan, in doing so the 12V and GND wires came a bit too close. BOOM and the power supply was nuked (odd). I got a new one from Hund in exchange for a network card, it had some traces of syrup but it worked. There was one downside: The cable loom was originated on the side (optimized for desktops) which meant the case could not be closed anymore. The power supply was then just mounted to fit.

allah16.jpgAn ideal build-up
allah17.jpgWhen the noise the case made in the corridor started to be disturbing at last the power supply had to be modded further so the case could be closed again. The bolt cutter and the file did their job well.
allah18.jpgNow everything fits in there again.
allah19.jpgGood work
allah20.jpgUpdate 20.5.2002:

To reduce the harddisk noise it was mounted with strings and cable ties.

allah21.jpgAfter three months of uptime the server had to be opened for some reason.
allah22.jpgAAAARGH!
allah23.jpgLuckily "Allah" has no dust allergy :)
allah24.jpgThe relocation to the bathroom:

I drilled some fat holes!
