Description
Originally !mURx had his WLAN router in his room, together with the other network components. Because the kitchen was a better place for the access point (the other rooms got better signal strength) it was to be moved.
The modem and the switch had to stay in !mURx' room so he had to lay two cables, one from the modem to the AP and one back to the switch. The whole thing had to be as cheap as possible. |
 | The pinout of the RJ45 plugs. Since we only need 100 Mbit the eight pin network cable was splitted into 2x4 to make it easier. |
 | The crimped plugs. To protect them against dirt and sharp bends it was wrapped in duct tape. |
 | !mURx' idea was to install a network outlet in his room. Because there was none around he took a small plastic box and glued two RJ45 jacks in there. |
 | The cable was carefully placed in the outlet and soldered to the jacks. |
 | The finished network outlet.
It could be attached to the wall. |
